Looking into Ryedale

Ryedale or Rye Dale, is the valley of the River Rye, in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The river carves this dale through, before it emerges onto the Carrs to find the River Derwent.

Ryedale is also a wapentake in the North Riding of Yorkshire, adjacent to the East Riding. It is bounded by Bulmer Wapentake to the south; by Birdforth to the west; by Langbaurgh to the north; by Pickering Lythe to the east; and by Buckrose in the East Riding to the south. In 2011, it had a population of 18,015.
