Nelson Island is an island of the South Shetland Islands, party of the British Antarctic Territory. The island is 12 miles long and 7 miles wide, and lies southwest of King George Island.
The name 'Nelson Island' dates back to at least 1821 and is now established in international usage. Historically it has been known also as Leipzig Island, O'Cain's Island and Strachans Island[1]
This is the location of the polar station of Eco-Nelson run by the Czech Republic.[2] is located on Nelson Island.
