Bedwellty is an ancient parish in the far north-west corner of Monmouthshire against the borders with Brecknockshire and Glamorgan. It forms the northernmost part of the Wentloog Hundred. It is adjacent to the parishes of Mynyddislwyn to the south and Aberystruth to the east in the adjacent Abergavenny Hundred. It extends many miles along the Rhymney and Sirhowy rivers and encompasses the populous valley towns of Tredegar and Ebbw Vale in the north and Blackwood in the south.[1]
It has a population of 56,635 in the following towns and villages:
- Aberbargoed
- Argoed
- Blackwood
- Ebbw Vale (on the boundary of Aberystruth Ph.)
- Markham
- Rhymney
- New Tredegar
- Tredegar
