In the Burnham Beeches

The Beeches Way is a one-day walking route through the woodlands of southern Buckinghamshire and running into Middlesex. It is 16 miles long. The route was developed by the Iver and District Countryside Association.

The walk begins on the bank of the River Thames opposite Cookham (in Berkshire), or another recommended starting point is Bourne End, Buckinghamshire. From here the route leaves the river and heads north-east to Hedsor and then in a zigzag route south-eastwards through Littleworth Common, through the Burnham Beeches to Farnham Common. From here, the route runs east, skirting the north of Stoke Poges to Fulmer and then south and east to Iver.

The walk passes through several ancient woodlands, including part of the Burnham Beeches, and other woodland, and over some lowland heaths, an unusual habitat in this part of Home Counties.

Finally east of Iver the route crosses the River Colne into Middlesex and finishes on the Grand Union Canal as it is crossed by Yiewsley High Street.
