Tremadog Bay is a large inlet of Cardigan Bay, defined by the coast of Merionethshire and the Lleyn peninsula of Caernarfonshire.
The River Glaslyn flows into the north of the bay and St Tudwal's Islands lie at the western end of the bay. Pwllheli, the main market town of Lleyn, together with the historic towns of Harlech and Criccieth, and Abersoch, a popular location for water sports, all lie on its shores.
Once this was a busy commercial bay; ships from across the oceans sailed into the docks at Porthmadog at the head of the bay. Ballast Island in the Bay at Porthmadog Docks was created by the offloading of ballast from these ships and so contans stone from all over the world.
