Skelwith Bridge is a small village in south-western Westmorland, on the banks of the River Brathay, which marks the border with Lancashire.
The village is around three miles south of Grasmere and is nearby the waterfalls of Skelwith Force and Colwith Force. The nearest lakes to the village are Elter Water to the north-west and Loughrigg Tarn to the north.
It lies in the civil parish of Lakes, which comprises the townships of Langdale; Grasmer; Rydal and Loughrigg; and Ambleside in the ancient parish of Grasmere, with those of Ambleside and Troutbeck in the ancient parish of Windermere.
