Not to be confused with the Carey River in County Antrim nor the River Cary in Somerset
The River Carey is a small river in the west of Devon, rising on the gentler western slopes of Dartmoor and running down ultimately to join the River Tamar.
The Carey rises in the Halwill Moor Plantation (north of Halwill Junction). From here its course is to the south-west almost in the straight line past Quoditch and Ashwater, then south near Virginstowe then south, passing on its route through no towns nor any villages of any size. It reaches the Tamar just north of Launceston.
The hamlet of Downicary bears the name of the river.
