Information

Penny Ferry Bridge, sometimes called the Pennyferry Bridge, is a modern bridge across the River Wear in Durham City, carrying pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge was developed as part of Durham's 'Millennium City' development, which includes the Gala Theatre, and opened in 2002.

The bridge was originally to be named the 'Millennium Bridge'. However the name 'Penny Ferry Bridge' after public consultation. The name comes from the ferry which once crossed the river here.[1]
