The Tavy at Bere Ferrers

The Bere Peninsula is the triangle of land between the tidal reaches of the River Tamar and River Tavy, which meet just south of Bere Ferrers.

The two main villages here are Bere Alston and Bere Ferrers, but with other hamlets along the river banks. Somewhat cut off by the unbridged rivers, the peninsula is a place apart, on the edge of Devon with Cornwall across the Tamar, the two rivers broad with water or at low water revealing the narrow, winding navigation channels amidst mud banks.

The Tamar Valley railway line running south from Gunnislake across the Calstock into Devon here and runs down through the Bere Peninsula and across Tavy at the Bere Ferrers Viaduct towards Plymouth.
