Agar's Island lies at the mouth of Hamilton Harbour and Fairyland Creek, on the Great Sound, 200 yards by sea from the exclusive area of Point Shares. The island is in Pembroke Parish.
The island is privately owned, with no public access. It is originally 4 acres. It can be seen from the Fairylands shoreline by cruise ship and ferry boat passengers. The isle rises up as Agar's Hill, which dominates the north side of the exclusive residential area of Point Shares
The island is named in honour of Sir Anthony Agar (1586-1637), also referred to in British history as Sir Anthony Aucher, a shareholder in the Bermuda or Somers Isles Company. He was a Member of Parliament, for Bishopsbourne in Kent. Aga He owned 50 acres in Pembroke Parish, including both the hill and the island that bear his name.
Once, the island was owned and run by the military, as one of a string of then-strategic islands that stretched from the Dockyard to Hamilton.
