Roughton is a village in Lindsey, the northern part of Lincolnshire. It is about five miles south of Horncastle and near the hamlets of Thornton and Kirkby-on-Bain.

The wider civil parish includes two hamlets, Dalderby and Martin, and the population of this parish in 2011 was recorded as 644.

In the 1086 Domesday Book, Roughton is noted with 11 households, with the King s lord of the manor.[1]

The parish church, St Margaret, dates from the 13th century. Built of a "patchwork" of greensand|greenstone, limestone and red brick, its construction includes elements from 12th-century Norman to 17th-century brick. It is a Grade II* listed building.[2] The base of a mediæval stone cross stands in the churchyard; it is both Grade II listed and designated as a scheduled ancient monument.[3][4]

Roughton Hall is a Grade II* listed building dating from the mid-18th century.[5]

Roughton Moor Wood on the outskirts of nearby Woodhall Spa is a conservation area consisting of semi-natural woodland; it is managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.[6]
