Gaisgill is a hamlet in the midst of Westmorland, in the upper dale of the River Lune, which here runs east to west, a mile and a half above the junction of the Lune with the Birk Beck at Tebay, below which the river turns south. Junction 38 of the M6 motorway is at Tebay also.

The A685 from Kirkby Stephen runs down the dale and through Gaisgill, on its way to the M6, while the B6261 heads north to Orton from here.
