Luinne Bheinn is a mountain in the Knoydart district of Inverness-shire, and reaches a height of 3,081 feet at its summit, which qualifies it as a Munro.
Walkers commonly call this mountain "The Looney Bin". It is a remote Munro in Knoydart south of Loch Hourn and Barrisdale.
The mountain has two tops; the western top is the true summit at 3,081 feet, and the eastern top is linked to it by knobbly, craggy summit ridge encircling a corrie, Coire Glas, from which ridge are steep drops to either side.
From the east another craggy ridge runs initially south round the rim of Coire Odhair before heading southwest to the summit of neighbouring Munro, Meall Buidhe
Ascent
The Bin is usually climbed together with Meall Buidhe.
The summit gives a fine, wide view in every direction; to the north is Loch Hourn and the fine sight of Ladhar Bheinn. To get to it though is a trek as Knoydart is remote. It can be approached from Inverie to the southwest or from Barrisdale to the northeast. From Inverie a fine expedition can be mounted; take the boat in from Mallaig. Either direction is a well recommended walk.
