Ynys Benlas, Holy Island

Ynys Benlas is a small islet lying between Anglesey and Holy Island. It measures approximately 70 yards (east-west) by 38 yards (north-south) at low tide and covers about half an acre.

The name Ynys Benlas is Welsh and means "blue top island", which is thought to derive from the bluebells which are said to have flourished on the island in days past. Another islet also named "Ynys Benlas" lies in the Menai Strait near Church Island, also belonging to Anglesey.

According to the Archaeological Journal (1844), the islet (referred to as Ben Las in the Journal), may have been an ancient signal hill.
