Upton is a village in the West Riding of Yorkshire, halfway between Wakefield and Doncaster. It has a recorded population of 3,541.
The village is situated south of Badsworth and north of North Elmsall.
In the 1960s the village was in its prime due to the strong mining community. Now the mines are gone and regeneration is in process as a housing overflow for the more expensive areas of Doncaster and Pontefract.
The village was home to Upton Colliery F.C. founded in 1931 and which played in the FA Cup 1939–1940 season and competed between 1945 and 1960. It featured the comedian Charlie Williams as a player.
