Strath Fillan

Strath Fillan is a valley in western Perthshire, down which flows the River Fillan. The valley stretches from Tyndrum to Crianlarich, and at Crianlarich, the glen turns a corner and becomes Glen Dochart. The river likewise enters Loch Dochart and emerges as the River Dochart.

Strath Fillan has long been a major route through the highlands; the A82 road, the West Highland Line, and the West Highland Way long-distance footpath all follow the valley.

The valley is named after an 8th-century Irish hermit monk known as Saint Fillan.

Strathfillan is situated in an area of dramatic natural beauty, surrounded by high hills. It has two main villages, which are those at its head and at its foot – Crianlarich and Tyndrum – and some dispersed settlements are scattered between them.

The Strathfillan Community Development Trust was formed in 1997. It provides low cost rental housing for local residents and manages amenity woodland.
