Red Bay, County Antrim

Red Bay is a large bay indenting the east coast of County Antrim, south of Cushendall.
The largest of Antrim’s nine glens, Glenariff, the 'Queen of the Glens', broadens and meets the sea here, with the village of Waterfoot at the glen’s mouth on Red Bay. The Antrim Coast road, running along the shore, clings to the steep edge of the sea until it round the headland and comes to the gentler shore of the bay. A prominent mountain, Knockore forms the southern headland.
The remains of Red Bay Castle may be found by the bay; a mediæval castle built by the Bissett family, inherited by the MacDonnells, and destroyed by Cromwell.
