Little Skellig is an island of County Kerry in the Atlantic Ocean, almost seven miles south-west of Valentia Island on the county's westernmost coast. It is the smaller of the two Skellig Islands, the other being a famous isle, Skellig Michael, which half a mile or so further to the southwest.
Little Skellig is closed to visitors.
The island has a large bird population, including a colony of Northern Gannets which is the largest in Ireland,[1] and one of the largest in the world. The island, together with Skellig Michael, is the centre of an 'Important Bird Area' of 900 acres established by BirdWatch Ireland in 2000.[1]
