Hutton Roof is a hamlet in Cumberland, one of a group of hamlets in the parish of Mungrisdale and nearby bearing the name 'Hutton'.[1]
Hutton Roof is to be found at an elevation of 1,010 feet above sea level between the valley of the River Caldew and that of its tributary Gillcambon Beck.
In 1870-1872, Hutton Roof was described as a township in Greystoke parish, with a population of 169 people in 33 houses.[2]
Though the name appears unusual, there is another hamlet named Hutton Roof in neighbouring Westmorland.
