Churchill is a village and parish in the Oswaldslow hundred of Worcestershire, four miles from Worcester. It is also known as Churchill in Oswaldslow to differentiate the village from Churchill in Halfshire hundred. In 2001 it had a population of 24.[1] The civil parish lies adjacent to those of Bredicot, Broughton Hackett, Spetchley, Upton Snodsbury and White Ladies Aston.[2]

History

The name "Churchill" means 'Crug hill'.[5] Churchill was recorded in the Domesday Book as Circehille.[6] Churchill was "Circehille", in the 11th century and "Cherchull", "Chirchehull" and "Cershull-juxta-Humelbrok" in the 13th century.[7]
