Cardrona Forest
The Cardrona Forest is a forest spread over the hills rising to the south of Cardrona, on the Tweed's south bank, and up the steep slope climbing from the riverbank. It is between Peebles and Innerleithen and lies mainly in Peeblesshire, but a finger of Selkirkshire intrudes into the middle of the forest also. The forest was planted by the Forestry Commission and consists of a mixed conifer woodland. Facilities are provided for walkers.
Within the forest is a network of tracks which can be used by walkers. The remains of a hill-fort are found here. In the midst of the forest is the summit of Wallace's Hill (1,509 feet), though its highest point is the summit of Kirkhope Law (1,762 feet) at the edge of the forest.
This forest is part of a portfolio of forests managed by the Forestry Commission hereabouts, including Hyndlee Forest, Swinnie Plantation, Innerleithen Forest, Elibank and Traquair Forest, Yair Forest, Cademuir Forest, Craik Forest, Thornielee Forest, Glentress Forest, Caberston, and Newcastleton Forest.
