Botley Hill is a hill amongst the North Downs in Surrey, At a height of 882 feet it is the highest point of the North Downs and the highest point in Surrey after Leith Hill near Dorking and Gibbet Hill near Hindhead.
The summit stands at the edge of a water tower enclosure to the north of The Ridge, half a mile from the North Downs Way. Previously the location of the summit was given as 876 feet at the trig point at TQ396553, as this is the highest point marked on current maps. However a 1965 1" Ordnance Survey map shows a spot height of 882 feet at the site of the present water tower.[1] A levelling survey confirmed the new location.
To the south is Oxted, which is the nearest railway station.
As the highest point of the North Downs, the hill can be seen from many tall buildings in London, and for example from Alexandra Palace in Middlesex.[2]
