| Information | |
Baths Bridge is a footbridge reaching over the River Wear in Durham, built in 1962 to replace a Victorian footbridge here of the same name. It crosses the river a little downstream of the city centre, below Claypath, and below the New Elvet Bridge.
The bridge of today is a single, elegant arch, which replaced a wrought iron footbridge built in 1898. The iron bridge itself replaced wooden footbridge built in 1855 linked.
The name of the bridge is inherited from its predecessors. It refers to the baths and public wash house that were built on the south side of the river.
