The Appin of Dull

The Appin of Dull is a plain beside the River Tay in Perthshire, found where the River Lyon meets the River Tay in the Highland parts of the county. Here there are no villages as such, but an interesting hamlet named Dull.

The place is to be found between Loch Tay and Aberfeldy.

In contrast to the bleak mountain sides rising to each side of the Tay and the Lyon, the meadows of the Appin of Dull are rich farmland. The name 'Appin' is from a Gaelic term and refers to the 'abbey land' associated with a great abbey; in this case an abbey said to have stood here founded by St Adamnan. The Strath of Appin continues northwards from the Tay following the valley of the Keltney Burn.
