Arkesden is a village and parish in Essex, located four miles south-west of Saffron Walden, and around six miles from Bishop's Stortford in neighbouring Hertfordshire. It is 22 miles north-west from the county town of Chelmsford. The parish forms part of the Uttlesford Hundred. The village has its own parish council.
According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 363, increasing slightly to 366 at the 2011 census.[1]
The village church is dedicated to St Mary the virgin. The village hall is on the church green next to Church Green Cottage. There is one public house, the Axe and Compasses.
It is also notable for being the village where mod/rock icon Steve Marriott died in 1991, in a fire in his home.
