Castletown River

The Castletown River is a river which flows through the town of Dundalk in County Louth. It rises across the border near Newtownhamilton in County Armagh, and is known as the Creggan River in its upper reaches.

The two main tributaries of the Castletown River are the Kilcurry and Falmore rivers

The river enters the Irish Sea at Dundalk Bay on the east coast of Ireland. The river enters the bay at its northwest corner and as it does so carves a deep channel through the foreshore. It is routinely dredged for navigation purposes for the deep water port of Dundalk.

Angling

The river features wild brown trout, sea trout and salmon and is also stocked with brown trout. Fishing is controlled by the Dundalk Brown Trout Angling Association. The best of the salmon and sea trout fishing is to be found downstream of Toberona bridge just outside Dundalk.
