Cawrse Hundred in Montgomeryshire

Cawrse is one of the hundreds of Montgomeryshire, located in the east of the county, adjacent to the border with Shropshire. It is bounded to the north by Pool Hundred; to the north-east by Deythur; to the east by Shropshire; to the south by Montgomery Hundred; to the south-west by Newtown Hundred; and to the west by Mathrafel. It had a population of 4,328 in 2011.

It comprises the following ancient parishes:

  • Alberbury (Criggion, Middletown and Uppington townships)*
  • Berriew (Brithdir township)
  • Buttington
  • Castle Caereinion (Hydan and Dol, Moydog, Gaer, Sylfaen, Trefnant and Castle, and Trehelyg townships)
  • Churchstoke (Bacheldre, Hopton Isaf and Weston Madoc townships)§
  • Forden
  • Pool (except Pool Middle)
  • Worthen (Rhosgoch, Leighton and Treystan townships)
