Bolton is a village in Westmorland, about four miles north-west of the county's pocket-sized county town, Appleby-in-Westmorland. Like Appleby, it is in the Eden Valley, on the River Eden.
At the 2001 census, the village had a recorded population of 416, increasing to 435 at the 2011 Census.
Anthony Salvin designed Crossrigg Hall.[1]
About the village
The parish church, All Saints Church, stands in the heart of the village. It is a twelfth century church with later additions,[2] notably a gabled 18th century south porch. It underwent a Victorian restoration in 1848. Today the church is grade II listed.[3]
Bolton has a pub, the Eden Vale Inn, and two schools.
