Beckwith is a small village in the West Riding of Yorkshire, two miles south-west of Harrogate.
The name of this village is first found recorded in about 972 as bec wudu, Old English for "beech wood".[1] The place was historically a hamlet in the ancient parish of Pannal.[2]
This was the ancient seat of the Beckwith family, which owned property here until 1753.[2] It gave its name to the now larger village of Beckwithshaw, a mile to the west.
