Mathrafel Hundred is one of the hundreds of Montgomeryshire, located towards the west of the county, adjacent to the border with Merionethshire. It is bounded to the north by Llanfyllin Hundred; to the east by Pool and Cawrse hundreds; to the south by Newtown Hundred; to the south-west by Machynlleth Hundred; and to the west by Merionethshire. It had a population of 3,515 in 2011.
It comprises the following ancient parishes:
- Castle Caereinion (Cwmgoron, Hydan Ucha, and Nantforch townships)*
- Garthbeibio
- Llanerfyl
- Llanfair Caereinion
- Llangadfan
- Llangyniew
- Mallwyd (Caereinion Fechan township)†
