Youngsbury House is a country house near Wadesmill and Thundridge, Hertfordshire, in the east of the county, north of Ware. It was built in about 1745 by David Poole,[1] and stands within 97 acres of grounds, and gardens landscaped by Capability Brown.[2]

Later owners

David Barclay, the Quaker banker and abolitionist, bought the manor in 1769, and enlarged the house. A plan by Capability Brown the following year introduced a serpentine lake.[5] After the death of his second wife, Barclay sold the estate in 1793 to William Cunliffe Shawe, and it passed in 1796 to Daniel Giles.[6]

In 2012, the house was for sale, "offers in excess of £3,900,000".[7]

As of 2015, the estate was owned by Jeremy Langmead,[2] the former editor of Wallpaper* magazine and Esquire magazine.[8].
