Tyersal is a village stuck to the outer edge of the conurbation extending eastwards out of Bradford: Bradford is two miles to the west. It has a dual aspect: a practical suburb from the city, and the countryside extending eastwards to the Tyersal Brook, beyond which is Pudsey which begins the Leeds conurbation. Leeds itself is eight miles to the east. The village had a recorded population of 2,605 according to the Bradford Community Statistics Project.

On Tyersal Road there are six shops, including a Newsagents, Pharmacy, Sandwich shop, mortgage brokers and a Takeaway.
