Tothby was a village now lost, which stood less than a mile north of the town of Alford, in Lindsey, the northern part of Lincolnshire. The only extant property today where the village once was to be found is Tothby Manor House, a Grade II listed building dating from the mid-17th century.[1]

History

In the Domesday Book of 1086, Tothby is listed as "Touedebi", and it is recorded that it consisted of three households, twenty acre of meadow and twelve acres of woodland.[2]

Tothby is no more, and its site is recorded as a deserted village.[3]

Tothby Manor House dating from the mid-17th century with alterations around 1840. Built of red brick, the house stands behind a moated enclosure, the site of the early Tothby Manor, home of the founder of the 14th-century church of St Wilfrid in Alford. The Manor was bought by Sir Robert Christopher in the mid-17th century, and the present house was first built at that time.[1]
