Thornton is a village in Lancashire, on the estuary of the River Wyre. It forms part of the "Golden Mile" coast of Lancashire, and is contiguous with the urban area of Blackpool to the south. Thornton adjoins Cleveleys, the two together reckoned to create a single town known as Thornton-Cleveleys: of these Thorton is to the east on the Wyre, while Cleveleys is to the west, on the coast of the open Irish Sea.

Sport

Thornton-Cleveleys is home to Thornton-Cleveleys RUFC who play rugby in the RFU Northern Division, North Lancs 1. Their home ground is the YMCA sport centre in Thornton.

Thornton-Cleveleys FC and Norcross & Warbreck FC play football in the West Lancashire Football League. Both teams' home pitches are in Thornton.

Fylde Flyers Ice Hockey Team are based in the SubZero Leisure Ice Rink (opened in 2011), Jubilee Park, Thornton-Cleveleys, and play in the EIHA North Division 2.
