Talmine is a crofting and fishing township, overlooking Talmine Bay, an inlet on the western shore of Tongue Bay in northern Sutherland.
Within the bay lies a preserved wreck; that of The Shamrock, a 19th-century sloop. It was reported that in November 1865, the Shamrock, a sloop of 15 tons with two crew and one passenger, was lost off the Rabbit Islands while sailing from Thurso (In Caithness) for Tongue, Sutherland, carrying meal. She came to rest in 'Talmin Bay, Sutherlandshire', with one life lost. The wreck within the bay is a protected historical monument.[1]
