The Sychryd Cascade

The Sychryd Cascade is a series of little waterfalls and rapids on the River Sychryd, which forms part of the border between Brecknockshire to the north and Glamorgan to the south.

It forms part of the 'Waterfall Country' amongst the rivers of southern Brecknockshire.

The wild water forms where the river is confined between the rocky walls of Dinas Rock on the north bank and Bwa Maen ('Stone Bow') on the south, and tumbles over the rocks on the way down towards the Sychryd's meeting with the River Mellte, which omes from the other side of Dinas Rock.

The passage of the river here is through an eroded geological fault along the line of the Neath Disturbance.

In former days, when the mines were busy, tramways where built int heh area and a metal ramp was built to carry a line over the cascades: it has since been removed after it was abandoned to rust and became a hazard.
