Llech Sychryd is a waterfall on a stream known as the Nant Hir, which forms part of the border between Brecknockshire on its west bank and Glamorgan on its east. The waterfall is on the upper part of the stream, nor far below its source. Below the fall the Nant Hir runs down to the River Cynon at Penywaun, below Hirwaun.
The waterfall occurs where the stream crosses a faulted thick bed of sandstone (the 'Cumbriense sandstone'): here the waters of the Nant Hir plunge over the lip to create the Llech Sychryd fall. Substantial tilted slabs of rippled rock occur above the fall: the name 'Llech Sychryd' means "Drying Slate" (or perhaps "Slab").
