Swinhope is a hamlet, scarcely there, about six miles west of North Thoresby railway station,[1] in Lindsey, the northern part of Lincolnshire. In 2011 the parish had a population of 172.
This was mediæval village, later deserted. The remains of what was Swinthorpe were completely destroyed in 1969 but cropmarks remain.[2]
History
Swinhope is recorded in the Domesday Book as Suinhope.[3] The name "Swinhope" means 'Swine valley'.[4] Swinyhope is an alternative name for Swinhope as recorded in 1887.[5]
