Rymill Coast
The Rymill Coast is an almost wholly permanently ice-bound coastline along the west coast of Palmer Land, within the British Antarctic Territory.
The designation 'Rymill Coast' refers to that portion of the west coast of Antarctic Peninsula, and also the east coast of Alexander Island facing it, between Cape Jeremy and Buttress Nunataks. It runs northward from English Coast and along both shores of George VI Sound. This coast is joined in the north by Fallières Coast, which runs along Marguerite Bay.
This coastline was partially photographed from the air by Lincoln Ellsworth on 23 November 1935. It was further photographed from the air and surveyed by British Graham Land Expedition in October–November 1936. The area was further surveyed by United States Antarctic Service in 1940, and by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1948–50. Additional aerial photography was done by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition in 1947, and by the United States Navy in 1966.
The coast was named by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1985 after John Riddoch Rymill (1905–68), the Australian leader of the British Graham Land Expedition of 1934-37.
