Ruadh Stac Mòr is a mountain within the Fisherfield Forest in Ross-shire, which reaches a height of 3,014 feet at its summit, and so it qualifies as a Munro.
This is reckoned the most remote Munro of them all, standing deep within the wild Fisherfield Forest, and requires a proper expedition to climb it. It is usually climbed together with its neighbour, A' Mhaighdean.
The mountain has a rounded appearance and is covered in sandstone. The southern and western cliffs are steep and craggy and care must be taken on the ascent. The summit has one main ridge running north-west to end at a scree-ridden slope overlooking several lochans and the Fisherfield Forest to the north.
A path snakes its way up the craggy south-west face of the mountain to the summit with some excellent scrambling opportunities. The usual access route is from Poolewe to the north-west and involves an extremely long walk in down the moorland to the west of Fionn Loch before crossing a causeway to the northern shores of Dubh Loch.
The north-west ridge of A' Mhaighdean can be climbed from here and on to Ruadh Stac Mòr, and the broad north-west ridge of Ruadh Stac Mòr can happily be used as a descent route but care must be taken.
