Mill Bridge on the River Yeo

The River Yeo, a tributary of the River Torridge, is a river in the north of Devon. It is one of numerous rivers named 'Yeo' in Devon and Somerset; here as for most of these rivers, the name is from the Old English ea, meaning "river".

The Torridge Yeo rises just a mile from Devon’s cliff-bound north coast and from here flows eastward, picking up numerous brooks from the hills and watering many farmsteads without passing through a single village.

By Orleigh Mills, the Yeo turns north-east and becomes tidal beneath Mill Bridge, just south-west of Landcross. After just under a mile below the tidal limit, the Yeo enters the tidal River Torridge, north of Landcross and south of Bideford, by the viaduct which once carried the railway across the Torridge and now carries a footpath on the Tarka Trail.
