The Rib close to its meeting with the River Lea

The River Rib is a Hertfordshire river, flowing in the east of the county. It rises near the village of Buckland and from there its course is followed by the A10 as the Rib and the road pass through Buntingford, Westmill, Braughing, Puckeridge and Standon.

The Rib discharges its waters into the River Lea near the county town, Hertford.

The River Rib used to have frequent floods due to heavy rain in the autumn, but this propensity was resolved by dredging and engineering work in the 1970s. It was used as the main water supply in Buntingford and the surrounding areas before a pump was installed.
