River Balvag
The River Balvag is a short river in Perthshire, about 5 miles long, between Loch Voil and Loch Lubnaig, two of the county’s freshwater lochs.
Loch Voil is fed by a multitude of mountain streams, but principally by the River Larig by way of Loch Doine at its western end. Loch Voil’s waters then drain from the foot of the loch at its eastern end near Balquhidder to form the River Balvaig which meanders wildly before turning south down Strathyre in the midst of the Strathyre Forest. The village of Stratheyre is on the river in the middle of the dale. A mile and a half below Strathyre, the Balvaidg enters the northern end of Loch Lubnaig.
Loch Lubnaig drains in turn through the Garbh Uisge, which is soon joined by the Eas Gobhain to become the River Teith at Callander.
