Information |
The Riddings Viaduct is a remarkable railway viaduct crossing the valley of the Liddel Water a mile south of Rowanburn: it crosses the river between Dumfriesshire to the north and Cumberland to the south. The viaduct was built in 1869 to carry a branch of the Border Union Railway over Liddesdale, on its course up Eskdale.
The viaduct is built in a shallow curve and spans the river and its dale in nine spans, standing high above the river.
The railway line is now disused, as the line closed with the line in 1967.
The viaduct is Category A-listed[1] and Grade II* listed.[2]
