Port San Carlos

Port San Carlos sits on the northern bank of the inlet known as Port San Carlos, off San Carlos Water on the western coast of East Falkland, in the Falkland Islands. It is sometimes nicknamed "KC" after former owner Keith Cameron.[1]

Port San Carlos is north of its namesake San Carlos. Both are named from San Carlos Water, which is named after an eighteenth century ship which explored these waters.

History

Port San Carlos shot to international fame in 1982; it was the first landing place of British forces during the 1982 Falklands War and was codenamed "Green Beach". The landing at Port San Carlos was part of Operation Sutton. Here is found the Blue Beach Military Cemetery, where fourteen of the British service personal killed during the conflict are buried.
