Newton by Toft is a little village in Lindsey, Lincolnshire's northern part. The village four miles west of Market Rasen. It is grouped Toft next Newton and Newtoft as 'Toft Newton' parish which at the 2011 Census had a population of 457.
The village church, St Michael, dates from the 12th century and was extensively rebuilt in 1860 by James Fowler.[1]
About the village
Close by the villages is Toft Newton Reservoir, on the upper reaches of the River Ancholme. It attracts anglers, amongst whom it is particularly known for trout, and bird watchers. The reservoir covers nearly 41 acres, and is supplied with water from Short Ferry, on the River Witham, through a pipeline ten and a half miles long. It is used to maintain flows in the Ancholme during the summer months.
The reservoir is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and brown trout. Facilities include a "wheelyboat", which is designed to allow wheelchair users to access the fishery.[2]
