Wild, of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve: Wild and Worsley were both officers who served in Shackleton's Imperial Transantarctic Expedition, the Endurance expedition. Point Wild is also named for Commander Wild.

The mountain was further surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from 'Hope Bay', 1960-61.
