Mount Roots is a lofty mountain in the Allardyce Range of South Georgia. It stands near the head of Nordenskjöld Glacier 4 miles ESE of Mount Paget, the highest mountain of the island.
Mount Roots has two main peaks, its western peak rising to 7,080 feet and its eastern peak to 7,448 feet. It is the fifth-highest on the island.
The mountain was roughly surveyed in the period 1925-30 by Discovery Investigations personnel, and resurveyed by the South Georgia Survey in 1951-52. It was named by the Antarctic Place-Names Committee after James W Roots, a member of the South Georgia Survey, 1951-52.
The first ascent was made by British climbers Will Manners and Stuart Macdonald, up the north buttress in January 2001.
