Moor Park Estate is a private residential estate in Hertfordshire which has grown into a village in its own right. It is not a gated community as such but all the roads are private roads with no public right of access and the houses within are all millionaires' mansions. There is a single parade of shops by Moor Park Station, on the London Underground Metropolitan Line.
The closed estate itself is north of Batchworth Lane. To the south of the lane are more normal houses and open public roads, bordering Northwood, Middlesex. The county boundary here appears in the form of a boundary path running some miles from Batchworth to the edges of Pinner Green.
Nature of the estate
The estate takes its name from Moor Park, a country house which was originally built in 1678–9 for James, Duke of Monmouth, and was reconstructed in the Palladian style circa 1720 by Giacomo Leoni. The house and grounds are now occupied by Moor Park Golf Club.
The estate consists of around 6 square miles of private roads; extending from Ruislip Woods through to Northwood, and finishing at Merchant Taylors' School]]. It is built on what used to be an area of Ruislip Moor, which is where the name Moor Park originates. While the roads are not blocked off, nevertheless cameras are placed to record all car movements in and out; your number plate is flashed up on a screen in case you have any doubt as to the surveillance.
The surrounding neighbourhood consists mostly of upscale houses, some dating back to the original 1930s developments. Moor Park has large Asian and Jewish communities, and many homeowers commute to London from Moor Park tube station on the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground.
The estate is strictly managed by the Moor Park Trustees.
