M2 motorway (Republic of Ireland)

The M2 motorway is an eight-mile motorway section of the N2 road, a national primary road in the Republic of Ireland. The N2 runs from Dublin to the border with Northern Ireland at Moy Bridge near Aughnacloy in Tyrone (to connect Dublin with Londonderry and Letterkenny). The M2 is a section of the route near Dublin.
The motorway starts at Rath near Ashbourne in Meath and turns back into an ordinary road eight miles later at a junction with the M50 Junction 5
The creation of the motorway was announced in 2008: eight miles of the N2, from Killshane to Ashbourne, was under consideration for re-designation to motorway standard, and this was approved in 2009, it was announced that the 13 km (8.1 miles) stretch had received ministerial approval to be re-designated.[1] It became a motorway on 28 August 2009.
